Do you own a laptop which lacks a numeric keypad ?
Does it include a Synaptics™ Touchpad that you never use, because
you favor a good old mouse ?
If you answered yes to those two questions then rejoice!
You can now turn your useless touchpad into a convenient numpad for free using
DigiPad.
This tiny application divides the surface of your touchpad in 9 areas which
react to your finger taps, and display the corresponding digits under any
applications, like the real deal!
The left button will display the zero key,
while the right button will show the decimal separator.

Because DigiPad will take full control of your TouchPad,
make sure that a mouse is connected to your laptop. Otherwise,
you won't be able to control it any more!
DigiPad behaves unobtrusively, and will start in
minimized mode. You will access it by double-clicking the small icon on Windows
traybar.

While the interface of DigiPad is a no-brainer, I will detail each option below :
Digits Layout : you
can change the way the keys are disposed on your touchpad. The
Calculator mode will act like an actual numeric pad, with keys from 1
to 3 at the bottom.
If you're a cell phone addict, you may fancy the Phone dial mode
where keys 1,2,3 lay at the top.
Decimal box : you can switch the default decimal separator of your country, and alternate between comma or period.
Run at start up : quite self-explanatory.
Sound : you will hear a short click after each of your tap. Default mode is off.
Pressure Sensitivity
: while it ranges from 1 to 100, I suggest never to exceed a value of 60.
The touchpad will hardly react to your taps otherwise.
Still, it can be a
nifty method to temporarily turn it off if it misses a switch button. The
common value remains 30. You can pinpoint your choice using up & down arrow
keys.
Quit : this button will terminate the program, and your Touchpad will turn back to its original state. To hide DigiPad from your screen, use the reduce button instead.
Help : shows this tutorial.
Testing :
You probably need to familiarize with your "new device". Tontie is a funny flash game from Eyemaze, which will help you taming DigiPad in a jiffy !
